Hug Your Washer Day

I love my new washer xox

Today we finally got a washing machine – the days of hoofing clothes to the laundreadmats is OVER!  Thus ends a two week long obsession with poring over Craigslist ads and calling strangers only to hear “Sorry, that just sold…”  Apparently there is a major run on washing machines in town.

I was going to just give in and order a new machine but the cheapest one I could find (that wasn’t junk) was $300, I had to wait a week for delivery and pay $20 for the hose hook ups.

Resigned, I scrimped up the cash to order the new machine but when I finally had it ready the machine I was looking at had gone up by $100 in two days.  Argh!  I was so upset… how could the price have raised up so much in such a short time?

All hopes of doing laundry at home drained out of me like so much dirty rinse water.  Dejected, I returned to Craigslist to search.  I found a badly written ad that had just been posted titled simply, “washing mashine”.  I clicked.

The description consisted of two words, “Commercial Quaility.”  The pictures were of a beautiful, new looking Whirlpool washing machine with a large capacity drum.  My hands were shaking as I dialed the phone number quickly.  I was convinced that hordes of washer wanters were dialing at that same moment, like a radio contest – who would be caller number 9?

It was me, and it was better than a contest… it was like winning the washer lotto!  Not only did the gentleman still have the machine, but he included the hoses ($20 value) and would deliver for an extra $25.  Deal!  We had that washing machine on its way the next day while I waited eagerly to hear news of its arrival from work.  The bonus is that the previous owner not only delivered but set the machine up as well.

So that is my story of joy for today… and how my dreams not only came thru but were exceeded.  Instead of a $400 no name brand that I had to buy hoses for, wait a week for and set up ourselves I found one for $200 that had everything down to the set up.  We held to our plan to not own a dryer so I’m waiting until the morning to wash the first load.

I never thought doing laundry could be so exciting – I declare today Hug Your Washer Day… let’s appreciate the gadgets that make our lives so much easier that we take them for granted.

ha..if only i had a washer/dryer hookup..hmmm..well i need to appreciate living by the beach. i really should go.

    • Lol… I thought of our conversation the whole time while I wrote this thinking “poor Amy doesn’t even HAVE hook ups so I can’t whine too much” ;p Then again – I don’t live on the beach either! I bet it’s gorgeous…

  2. That’s brilliant! I couldn’t be without my washer. No dryer here though either :-)

    • Yesterday I did the first load all excited and then it decided to get misty and rain so I still wound up hauling laundry to the mat but only to put a few quarters in the dryer… I was still thrilled. I still don’t miss having my own dryer despite that, I just have to get back into the ‘hang’ of it ;p
