Fake Sugars: Diabetic, Fat and Depressed

It’s official… again.  Diet soda is making you fat and diabetic.

I blogged about this last September and have seen cases of this stuff leaving the warehouse store where I work – usually in the cart of someone unhealthy and overweight.  Even the American Diabetes Association urges real sugar in moderation.

I quote:

The myth that sugar causes diabetes is commonly accepted by many people. This is a complicated issue. Eating sugar has nothing to do with developing type 1 diabetes.

Now the evils of chemical sweetener has made the headlines again with Study: Diet Soda Increases the Risk of Diabetes. Why Do We Still Drink This Stuff?

Getting fat and developing diabetes may be one reason why diet soda is also linked to clinical depression.  A recent study by the National Institute of Health found that 31% of regular diet soda drinkers were diagnosed with clinical depression.  Giving up regular sugar to be healthy and finding out not only had I been lied to but now was burdened with the very reasons I gave up real sugar would be enough to make me depressed.

Millions of people suffer from severe and even life threatening conditions and the cause has been directly linked to a product that they were misled to trust.  Here’s my question: What are we going to do about it?

One Response to Fake Sugars: Diabetic, Fat and Depressed

  1. Amy says:

Since I started juicing carrots and having fresh, organic carrot juice everyday, I can really tell a difference when I don’t have this juice.
As far as diet soda goes? I never drink that and maybe we could put a law in effect that NO ARTIFICIAL INGREDIENTS should ever be in ANYTHING we eat!!! (logical you would think?)
