Christmas Lites III cover reveal at MIDNIGHT!

Christmas Lites III Cover teaserTonight at midnight the Christmas Lites III cover will be revealed – Christmas Lites III is an anthology that seeks to raise money for the National Coalition for Domestic Violence (NCADV), ncadv.org.  The cover design this year was done by Kyra Cato, with inside graphics designed by Crystal Bozeman Clifton.

The literary baby of Amy Eye, I’ve happily contributed work to her project since it began, but when Christmas Lites II rolled around the cause had become very personal to me as I struggled to cope with things that had happened to me and my children.

Women that have been assaulted are often very quiet about the acts that have been committed against them.  It’s not a secret we want to share – making crime against women one of the least punished.  There is still a lot of stigma against victimized woman.  Often we are accused of ‘eliciting’ the violence.

Violence can also come from a trusted partner, making prosecution almost impossible as the truth gets diluted with accusations of betrayal and fear of loss.  Children, pets, financial security and home are all things a woman stands to lose when speaking out.  Often legal entities are slow to move and doubtful.  Is it any wonder we often choose to endure silence?

This is why I support the Christmas Lites project.  I once had my voice taken from me but I was able to be strong and come back from it, along with my children.  The proceeds from this book go to helping other women learn to be strong and find their voice again.

Christmas can be a terrible holiday when spent in dark silence – the purpose of Christmas Lites is to brighten the way for these women so they can see their path to freedom.

There is life after darkness, and pain does heal, and as long as I have the ability to write I will always give my time and dedication to this project.

Transit umbra, lux permanet.

Darkness passes, light remains.
