I bought a scooter and I’m a little awed by it. It’s a TAO TAO Roman
purchased on Amazon. and it came in a giant cardboard box today.
Right now, as you can see, it needs assembly. That’s what I’ll be doing (with Mr. Smith!) tomorrow.
Reasons why I bought a scooter? It’s such a cheap back up vehicle is the main reason. We wanted to turn the car into more of a family shared vehicle but I need something reliable I can put around town on. I like to wear skirts in the summer and I enjoy the whole wind-in-my-hair lifestyle. A scooter seems like the answer.
Did I mention it was an economical choice? I paid around $1,000 for a brand new machine. It gets 90 miles to the gallon and rumor has it that my plate and registration will be less than $50. Since I already had my motorcycle license, I bought a 150 cc machine. Anything less than 50 cc you don’t need anything more than a regular driver’s license.
As much as I’d like to pretend like a scooter was solely a practical choice, I have to admit I got chuffed with all the hidden compartments and I like the vintage-esque styling. I even bought an owl decal for the locking storage compartment on the back.
I am a bit nervous looking at it. It’s been a few years since I rode a motorcycle (my first post on this blog was about me selling my motorcycle) and this scooter is not a motorcycle. It feels more like a toy and the concept of sitting on it like a chair is worrying me. I can’t wait to try it out and see how easy it is. The rest of the world seems to deal with them nicely.
Tomorrow is scooter D-Day, so expect some more photos and wish us luck. Here’s what the scooter should look like once it’s together.
