To celebrate National Poetry Month, I joined the April Writes Challenge and I’ve promised to write a poem a day. Tonight it’s late and I’ve been having an intense phone conversation about life and the universe so I stuck with a lackluster haiku. The theme was autism. Here’s my tired and hurried poetical offering to begin the month…
I once knew a child
who saw life differently –
I saw joy through him.
There are a bunch of other things to do in the area to celebrate. Here’s a few:
April 1 was Say the Word! at French Quarter Bar and Grill in Niceville starting at 7:00 PM. It was fun. I thought I might recite a poem from memory but instead I chickened out and read from End of Mae.
April 14 ( Tuesday) : 3rd Annual Poetry Slam at Warriors Hall in Crestview ( in the Police Dept. building) 6PM until 8 PM.
April 16 (Thursday): Open Mic Poetry Reading hosted by Professor Amy Riddell’s Poetry Class. 12:30-2:00 PM Niceville Campus Building S, Room 303 Come ready to listen or to read your own poems (limit two poems per person). For more information, please contact Ms. Riddell at riddella@nwfsc.edu.
April 20 (Monday) : Student Writer’s Workshop with Richard Blanco
