Find Your Story Class Begins Today

NWFSCThere’s still room in my creative writing class at Northwest Florida State College that begins today at 1 p.m. We will be covering the different elements that combine to make a good story. Information on all my classes can be found by clicking my Class & Workshop page.

In this class we will be taking one story and breaking it down to its separate elements. We will explore each element along with different methods of presentation. Some of the topics of discussion will include:

  • Finding inspiration
  • Blending archetypes
  • Word choice to convey mood
  • Using allegory
  • Mining reality
  • Writing as therapy
  • Author as brand
  • Publishing mechanics

About Angela Yuriko Smith

A former news journalist, Angela Yuriko Smith retired from that world to focus full time on her own writing. Her prose and poetry have been published in several print and online publications, including the “Horror Writers Association's Poetry Showcase” vols. 1-3, “Christmas Lites” vols. 1-6 and the “Where the Stars Rise: Asian Science Fiction and Fantasy” anthology. She also has nearly 20 books which include dark and speculative fiction for YA and adults, books for children and two collections of poetry. Her first collection of poetry, “In Favor of Pain,” has been nominated for an 2017 Elgin Award. When not writing, she teaches creative writing at Northwest Florida State College.
