Submissions are open for the annual Christmas Lites anthology! All proceeds go to benefit the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). This will be the seventh year in a row I’ve participated in this great cause. Every year this and my family are what makes the holiday special to me.
The pet project of Amy Huntley from The Eyes For Editing, she has put out a call for artists and authors to contribute. In her own words…
A message from Amy Huntley—I know many of you are busy, so I will try not to take much of your time. But I am asking for authors, poets, artists, graphic designers, anyone who is willing to give me a short story, a poem, beautiful artwork or anything that we can use to make a great book. I do not pay royalties. This is not a book to “get your name out,” nor is this any type of publicity stunt.
It is literally an act of kindness to help a charity that does so much for men, women, and children who have suffered from domestic abuse. In the world we live in now especially, I find it very important to spread some love and joy around. I make NO MONEY from the sales of this book. I have worked with the NCADV for the last six years on this project and the account used to publish these books are set up under the NCADV’s own account. The royalties are deposited directly into their account.
My son, Brandon, is also very invested in this charity and book, and has asked me again this year to reach out to the authors who have children and encourage them to write stories for us as well. Last year, we had six wonderful children authors who contributed—so many in fact, that I created a special “Children’s Interlude” so they had their own special place in the book.
I am also in need of additional editors and proofreaders to help me out this year. Tricia Kristufek and Cassie McCown have helped me quite a bit, but I would like to add to the staff a bit if possible.
So what exactly am I looking for in the story? I don’t have many criteria. I like the stories to be as varied as the authors who write them. All I ask is to try to keep the story under 6K words, for the content to be at least PG-13 or lower, and for it to be Christmas themed.
I like to try to publish the book around the end of November, when everyone really seems to be in the Christmas spirit. So, it would be really great if I could get the stories in around the beginning of September. I know some trickle in last minute, and that’s okay – I just can’t have everyone’s coming in that late.
If you are interested in contributing, please let me know that you are interested so I may start planning. Thank you all for your time, and thank you so much if you are able to help. Tis the season to start thinking of Christmas Lites!
Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in participating in any way. And please share to any groups, friends or family who may be interested!
