My fortune cookie today was appropriate as I finished this poetry course.

This was the last class of the MOOC—a massive open online course—given by the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa. As my own classes (as teacher this time) are ready to start and Hurricane Irma looms, the feeling of accomplishment is a relief. It was a big, satisfying check off my list.

I have a very early workshop tomorrow morning. Who gets up at 8 a.m. to learn about social media? Oh yea… the Niceville Business Exchange. I’m looking forward to meeting this energetic (and early!) group in the morning.

With that, here is my final assignment from Written for Power of the Pen: Writing Identities and Social Issues in Poetry and Plays. The assignment was to go through all the work I had submitted, find a recurring theme and then craft a new poem integrating what I liked best from all of them. Here is the result.

  1. good times – thank you for alerting me to this course. Though I did not fully complete the course, I appreciated the first half that I did participate in. The MOOC model is awesome.
