Remember a few years ago when I was so excited to be losing weight and I posted this video on Youtube to share how I was doing it? (You can see the video here.)
I haven’t thought much of it afterwards until I got this message to the right (click image for full size):
During the holidays I’ve slipped back into bad habits and gained back 5-10 pounds. It was just dawning on me that I wasn’t as happy now as when I was running all the time and focused on being healthy—but I really didn’t want to give up the sugary snacks I’d started having at work—until this message.
chef_rdl has reminded me to get back to feeling good. I turn 50 later this year, and it’s not going to get easier. They say love is the gift that gives back. I think inspiration works the same way.
In May, I’ll be turning my focus back to getting fit and back into running. chef_rdl has agreed to let me post an interview here on how he did it and what he found worked best. Most of all, I thank him for the reminder of how amazing I felt before the extra 10 pounds.
And now… because it’s National Poetry Month and I’m trying to highlight poetry all month long… here is the poem I wrote back when I first lost my own 50 pounds. It was published in my collection, In Favor of Pain.
