First, let me apologize for being late this month. I was in a funk. I’m past it now. If you must know more, you can read about that here. Second—interesting collection of poem lines this month!

Out of five contributors, three of us chose lines that had a lovely, magical mood… and then the last two contributors bring the chill. None of us knew what was submitted until afterwards—and yet somehow, each month, the poem fits together.

This is the story our poem tells me: It’s a cool, rainy day in spring and a young woman looks out the window at the day. She sees the rain as silver rather than grey.  She is caught up in the moment. She is unaware of the danger whispering in her ear.

A demon has taken residence in her shadow. He tells her how good she is. She does all the right things, unlike her friends, he says. She is so much holier. The whispering sinks in and stains her soul. She withers and all the silver of the days turn to steel.

Excellent job, everyone! This may be my favorite Corpse yet. Let’s do it again on September 1… and here is our latest Exquisite Corpse.
