For awhile now I have been doing edits for Mr. Smith’s first book—a 200k dark fantasy novel with the working title of Shadow’s Lament. Officially, I’m finished. Now it will be off on it’s way to a final editor and beta readers. We hope to have his book released by early 2019.
My first thoughts? This is an excellent story. The characters elicit emotional response and build genuine relationships with the reader. I’ve enjoyed their journey. Sometimes I felt annoyance with their actions, but I have traveled with them and experienced their triumphs as well as negative consequences.
This is a massive book with a complex story arc that falls together in the end to give a satisfying resolve as well as setting things up for the next book. I am looking forward to the day when I hold this book in my hands and get to read the final product.
I am very proud that my husband was inspired to put this story down and make it a reality. The level of commitment required is phenomenal, as any author knows. The fact that his first book is probably the word count of all my books together is a touchy point, so best not mention it. If he gets on the NYT Bestseller’s list with it, I claim all credit for brilliant editing.
Before I get any emails on this, the answer is no. I do not do book editing normally. I have my own books to write and have a full schedule from now until this time next year. I’m always happy to talk about writing and all things related, but please don’t ask me to edit your book.
Find R.A. Smith and stay updated on his Facebook page and his Amazon author page. I will be releasing the cover and all details here as well.
