“Paper Cuts” on PoetryNook

PoetryNook Day and as I’m swamped this week with publishing stuff, time to dig in the vault and see what I have laying around. I’m rewarded with a poem I wrote last month for Nina D’Arcangela‘s monthly Ladies of Horror challenge posted on her Spreading the Writer’s Word blog.

Each month she sends out a selection of photos, and those of us involved write a poem or flash fiction inspired by the image we were sent. I had this image of an old camera and photos to work with. And here’s what I came up with…

Paper Cuts

Love is a razor
like these photos that I keep.
Painful reminders

forever preserved
on stiff paper, stiff like you—
a paper cut love.

I should rip them all
like I ripped through your soft skin
shattering your rules…
