The Worse It Gets, the Better It Is

The old adage says that if anything can go wrong, it will.  That’s what Mr. Smith and I are dealing with now.  In the course of a few days we’ve had an internet filter issue, our power supply for the main computer went dead and this morning we woke up to the electricity on the block being off.  Of course all this happens as I’m doing a weekend long author chat.

Basically, all this means that we are operating at minimum technological capacity.  The only computer we have left to use is an ancient laptop.  I am struggling to answer comments in between internet surges.  I’m hoping I can get this posted without having to go borrow a public computer.  I’m grateful I even have a public computer as a back up idea.

Call me crazy, but I love it when everything goes wrong.  Nothing great has ever been accomplished with ease.  Discoveries don’t just happen, they are painstaking fought for by stubborn, obsessed people.  Having everything blow up in my face doesn’t discourage me, it tells me I’m on the right track.

Friction turns a lump of rock into a jewel and a hunk of wood into furniture.  It sands off our rough edges and breaks off the parts of us that are weak.  What is left is what is needed and nothing more.  Turn up the heat to make a cake and transform weak clay into a strong pot.  Turn up the heat on us and we walk out the other side better people.

So that’s why when things get difficult I get happy.  It means there is something here worth doing.  There’s treasure to be found, a discovery to be made, and some growing to do.  None of that ever comes easy and falls into your lap, so be grateful for opposition.  It means you are worth fighting >;D

Bring it on!
