Having a celebratory toast :)
Having a celebratory toast 🙂

Mr. Smith just received his visa card in the mail! Finally, two countries and five years later, my husband and I are both legal to stay in the same country. We started the visa process in America in 2011, the year before was spent with me applying in Australia. 🙂

This wraps up years of struggle, paperwork hurdles and money. Governments kept asking for more money but would only let one of us work. Altogether, between Australia and the U.S., we estimate we’ve spent about $15,000 just to stay together.

Coincidentally, the day before the visa came through, we finally found a house we’d like to purchase. We’d agreed not to move houses until the visa was approved because every move results in lost paperwork and delays. Now we can finally change our address, and we’ve decided to try and purchase a home. But more on that later.

It was a good week, the two weeks of rain and cold finally ended resulting in sunshine again (Yes, we are spoiled down here in Florida.), things at the newspaper move onwards and I can finally leave “check on visa” off of my to do list.
