Weekly Broadcast for 27 Feb 2023

This week wraps up all my ChatGPT experiments. Just in time too. I write this blog because I love writing it, and having someone else take over for a month (except my poetry posts) has been a little frustrating— even an artificial someone else.

The experiment:

At the end of January I asked ChatGPT (an artificial intelligence) what a perfect blog for writers would look like. What would the posts be about, the keywords, what days and times were optimal… then I asked ChatGPT to write the posts for me. ChatGPT is credited for the work, by the way. You can see all the posts here.

You may have noticed this going on, but I didn’t want to mention it and skew my results. I did a surprise reveal on the experiment this past weekend on Spilling the Ink when my scheduled guest had to cancel where I discussed what ChatGPT did on my blog and my thoughts on the results and then I interviewed ChatGPT itself live. It was a fun show but the temperature here in Brazil was intense and I was having some tech difficulties. I’ll be doing a planned followup show this Wednesday which will include sharing the traffic results of the posts created by both AI and human (me) for comparison.

Spilling the Ink expands to twice-ish weekly

And speaking of this Wednesday… there is officially enough material to cover that I feel moved to expand to two episodes weekly—for now. The Wednesday show will be more focussed on the actual business of writing and include prompts. With less emphasis on guests, this week’s Wednesday show will discuss the results of a month long experiment using AI as a blogger. Watch the show this coming Wednesday at 2 pm CST here.

Coming up this week

Addressing the recent Clarkesworld issues with AI, I’m looking at ways to head that off for Space & Time. I talked about this in last week’s show and will address it further this Wednesday. Bottom line: there will be changes to our submissions process.

March 3: I’ll be part of The Pixel Project‘s 16th live Read For Pixels YouTube Livestream session, “Hear Her Roar: The Power of Audiobooks to Imagine a World Where There is Justice for Victims of Violence Against Women”. This panel features award-winning audiobook narrators Cynthia Farrell and Kate Forbes, acclaimed Horror author Angela Yuriko Smith, and acclaimed Historical Supernatural Fantasy author Leanna Renee Hieber. The session is held in support of the audiobook our first Read For Pixels charity anthology, Giving the Devil His Due, watch that on YouTube this week here or below.

After that, it will be the usual Saturday show, poetry edition, and this week’s guest will be my friend, partner-in-rhyme and poetry co-host Amy Zoellers to talk all about her mega accomplishments and progress over the last year. The regular STI with Amy Zoellers as guest can be found here.
