This has been an awful week. My NaNo novel has pretty much ground to a whining halt. The past four days have not seen one new word added. I have one whopping pledge on my NaNo fundraising page and it’s me.
Yesterday I was bound for a birthday party and then couldn’t go at the last minute. Towards the end of the day (Mr. Smith will tell you it was all day ;p) I had the inevitable meltdown that has been building up and got it all out of my system. Now I can get on with things, and as usual, things are not as bad as they seemed last night.
According to my NaNo progress report gizmo, I will be finishing this novel on February 1st of 2012 at this rate. Just as I was ready to beat my head against my long suffering keyboard and wail dramatically, I took a spin over to Empty White Pages and got encouragement. It seems that Sarah and I are suffering from the same thing: NaNo Negligence.
It makes me feel better to know that I’m not alone (bless you Sarah!), so I hopped over to my NaNo stats page to have a better, and less dramatic, peek at what I need to do. There, on the front page was more evidence that many of us are struggling thru our novels. According to Lindsey Grant, fellow Wrimo, this is a sprinting weekend for many of us to catch up. Right there is the true value and beauty of NANOWRIMO.
Writing a novel is hard, but knowing that we are all in this together is encouraging. I stumbled across Sarah’s confession of her own NaNo neglect this morning on accident, but it’s exactly what I needed to read. She told me three things I needed to hear: I’m not alone, it isn’t easy and to get my tush moving already.
I have 43, 570 words to go… it’s NaNo or BUST!
Music to inspire me:
Eeep…this sounds so stressful. I’m glad I don’t do nano.
Awe… the crazy stress is what makes it fun! Wait… that doesn’t sound right… ;p
You’re definitely not alone. I’ve been so slow this time. Just hit 16,000 today, that’s like 3,000 words today. I took myself off to the State Library so no one could ask me to do anything. Worked a charm. Lots more library trips coming up!
Hope our NaNoNegligence is dealt with!
Denise
I’m so glad my words helped Angela, I really am. I only managed 3k yesterday because my honey needed me to spend a few hours with him. I’ll hit the 10k today. Remember though, that even if for some reason you don’t hit 50k by the end of the month, you will still have added a big lump of words to your book that you might not have done otherwise. I have definite faith in you that you’ll catch up though 🙂
