My teenage son, Aaron, made his poetic debut last night at T.V. Dinner Theater when he read a poem he wrote about the Literary Lizard. Not only did he write a poem about my favorite book character, but he read the poem on stage with the lizard next to him. Major kudos, Aaron — yes, you may borrow the car.
T.V. Dinner Theater is every first Friday beginning at 6 p.m. at Cafe Bienville, Niceville, where performers may compete for cash and other prizes. All are welcome to perform poetry, comedy, prose, plays, juggling, dance… the mic is open 🙂 The kitchen remains open until 6 p.m. For more information, contact Loren Boyer at skritchus
You can watch Aaron’s performance here, with his poem’s text transposed below.
The Poem I Wrote Ten Minutes Ago —Â By Aaron Cato
If you haven’t heard of me
I’m the Literary Lizard.
I read circles around Shakespeare
and please believe me, I’m not fake here
so listen here, my man,
you can’t even touch me.
I’m cuter than a muffin
and my smarts is pretty buff’in
so you can’t do much
but just gimme a little lovin’
so when you’re out busy grubbin’
you’ll see me all day just toughen
while the Geico Gecko
ain’t got nothin’.
I’m just a Literary Lizard —
ain’t no fancy wizard.
Can’t cast a lightening bolt
and make a crazy blizzard.
But listen here, Bub,
don’t mistake me for some scrub
just cause if a teacher wanted out
I could no doubt sub
as a simple, old regular
Literary Lizard.
