Anyone who chats with me for more than a day knows how much I love young writers. That’s why we’re putting together Ember Press, a small publishing house dedicated to building up young writers.
That’s why I’m always happy to publish young writers like Ashlee and Kira here on my blog. That’s why I am making a point to get as many young writers as possible published in an upcoming anthology this spring. Young writers are fresh, unspoiled by ego and conventional wisdom. Their creativity springs from the source; creative wordplay for the sheer love of it.
It’s to continue to support young writers that I’ve decided to fundraise all thru November to benefit The Office of Letters & Light. Their mission is to help “children and adults find the inspiration, encouragement, and structure they need to achieve their creative potential.” To this end they host a number of inspirational events, including NANOWRIMO in which I’m participating in this year.
Many of you know that my birthday is coming up this month. If you planned on sending me anything, I’m asking that you donate to my NANO Fundraising Page instead. If you are looking for a benefit to support this holiday season, please consider contributing to The Office of Letters & Light this year. I’m donating all my royalties and earnings from now until December 1st to this cause.
Many of us were once young writers ourselves. Remember that first encouraging critique that sparked a flame inside you? For me it was Mr. Donnelly, my English teacher. I want to make sure that every future Rowling and Poe has that kind of encouragement to ignite the creative passion that lies within, fanning it to a life so bright it will illuminate the world.
Please consider sponsoring me in this write-a-thon. Everyone who donates will receive a personal thank you from me as well as an ebook copy of my finished ‘NANO novel’ when it’s published. I will be writing for NANO all thru November.
That is such a nice gesture… you have a very big heart:)
Way to go, Angela. Kids and young writers need all the support they can get. My son entered a contest through Efrig Publishing recently. Unfortunately, the deadline passed Nov. 1.
