My Fair iLady iDentity Revealed

Indie pARTy InvitationYesterday I introduced a brave soul that agreed to be my vic… volunteer for my virtual experiments.  Today I shall reveal her identity.

In the flesh she is Amy Eye, a professional editor for two publishing houses.  She also does freelance editing for writers in her spare time.  Visit her website to find out more about her.

In Second Life she is Dranea, the avi with the million megapixel smile.  She bravely chose a digital version of herself and with an extraordinary pioneering spirit, logged on.  What a hoot that turned out to be.  Like a crazy Twilight Zone slumber party we talked clothes and make up… and then went on to try new skins and hair on her iSelf.

Then things got crazy when swarms of artists decided to show up and start setting up their exhibits for August (I’ll be introducing the last them before the exhibit starts, don’t worry).  Poor Dranea was deserted as I ran around like a crazy person, my communication dropping to the level of hurried, half finished apologies.  No worries tho, this resourceful woman took it upon herself to reshape her buttocks whilst waiting*.

We didn’t get to finish all our pixel primping in that session, but Dranea is coming back to see her first Second Life social gathering, the big Indie pARTy being thrown down this Sunday.  I can’t wait to see how she likes meeting and chatting with artists, musicians and writers (oh my!) from all corners of the globe.  THEN we’ll be setting her up with her own virtual editor shop on Book Island… after we recover from the festivities anyways.

This experiment is to show how beneficial Second Life is for those who need some panache for pennies.  From networking in professional organizations such as the MWGA to socializing, it’s all here.  Amy is new to Second Life and will be offering her unbiased opinion of the experience.  If she says it’s a waste of time I will concede that perhaps I am crazy.

If she agrees with me tho, I expect every indie artist/author/musician that needs exposure (that’s all of us) to run to their computer and literally jump in.  I will even hold classes to help set everyone up and do whatever I can to help.

I believe in the indie spirit; it is raw creativity, belief in one’s own gifts and a mind open to any challenge.  Indie is not a title to fling around lightly, it is a way of life.  Second Life enhances it perfectly.

Well, from going from drab to semi-glam in the course of 2 hours was quite exciting for me. I have go to go shopping and get current, Angela is SMOKING HOT in second life, and I feel like the nerd girl in the back on the class, waiting for her change to take the plaid skirt off and show the world what she is made of. As I sat on my bed, lap top before me, my Second DigiMe was fun to accessorize – even if it took me five times to figure out how to get back to a menu I was at 5 seconds before.

I am no novice to online worlds, I have quite a few characters in WoW, and LOVE the online experience, but Second Life is is a totally new experience. Not only do I get to primp my hair however I want, liposuction is cheaper and safer than ever before – did I mention that my tush went from flab to FAB in just under 15 seconds? :)

My first experience on Second Life, while a bit overwhelming, was so much fun with Angela there as my own personal cheerleader. I am looking forward to the next ‘girl party’ we have – oh yea, and also about doing this networking thing she has told me so much about. You literally have to much fun you forget there is real work to do!

Hahahaha! You actually bring a good point up about one of the Second Life ‘pitfalls’ – having so much fun that you forget what you meant to do. I’m guilty of that a few times for sure. I had a lot of fun with you too… I was laughing so hard at all my blank moments. “It’s the slidey thing… to your left. I mean right. Oops…”
